For information on land divisions, combinations, boundary adjustments, homeowner’s principal residence exemptions or any other questions contact the Assessing Office via the email or phone number at the top of the page. A person may also request an in-person meeting with the assessor at the contact information above as well. If contacted outside or normal business hours, you will be contacted back within 5 business days of your original inquiry.

For inspection or production of records maintained by the assessor’s office, please first contact the assessing department using the phone number or email above. Below, you will find a FOIA Request application along with Somerset Townships FOIA guidelines.

To comply with MCL 211.24c, tax payers will receive their assessment change notice(s) prior to the March Board of Review. Instructions on that notice will inform tax payers to contact the Somerset Township Assessing Department to set an appointment with the March Board of Review. At that time, the assessing staff will have the ability to review the assessment, informally hear or resolve disputes with the tax payer prior to the March Board of Review.

Property Reviews...

The Assessing Department will be updating property record cards throughout the township during the spring, summer and fall season as part of the standard Assessing Administration process recommended by the State of Michigan. These visits will not necessarily increase your tax bill unless new structures/additions are discovered; usually caused by not obtaining proper permits. Some structures/additions may not require permits, but may still add value to your property, therefore requiring this update process for the township to remain in compliance with State Tax Commission guidelines.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Anthony Stockdale, Somerset Township Assessor at the number listed above.
The Somerset Township assessing department is required to meet all requirements outline by the State Tax Commission in the following document:

Assessor Responsibilites:
The Assessing Department is responsible for the preparation of the annual Assessment Roll which is completed in accordance with the General Property Tax Act (GPTA). The Assessing Department follows the GPTA and State Tax Commission (STC) guidelines in order to determine taxable status, true cash value, assessed value, and taxable value for all real and personal property within Somerset Township.
